Wool cover care

🐑 Caring for Wool Diaper Covers

Wool is a natural, breathable, and beautifully simple option for cloth diapering - especially for nighttime or heavy wetters.
When cared for properly, it’s odor-resistant, antibacterial, and can go weeks between washes.

✨ Why Wool Works

Naturally waterproof: Lanolin (a natural oil found in sheep’s wool) repels moisture while allowing airflow.

Odor-resistant: Wool neutralizes ammonia, keeping covers fresh even after multiple wears.

Temperature-regulating: Keeps baby cool in summer and cozy in winter.

Eco-friendly: 100% natural and biodegradable.

💧 How to Wash Wool Covers

You don’t need to wash wool after every use - just when it starts to smell, feels sticky, or gets soiled. Most families wash every 2-3 weeks or as needed.

Here’s how:

1. Fill a basin or sink with cool or lukewarm water (never hot - it can shrink or felt the wool).

2. Add a small amount of wool-safe wash (like Eucalan, Unicorn, or any lanolin-enriched wool wash).

3. Submerge the cover and gently swish. Avoid rubbing or wringing.

4. Let soak for about 15 minutes.

5. Rinse gently in cool water until clear.

6. Do not twist! Gently press out water, then roll in a towel to remove excess moisture.

7. Lay flat to dry on a clean towel away from direct heat or sunlight.

🪄 Lanolizing (Replenishing Waterproofing)

Lanolizing restores the natural lanolin in wool that keeps it water-resistant. You’ll usually need to do this every 3- 4 washes, or when the cover starts to feel damp sooner than usual.

You’ll need:

Pure lanolin (solid or liquid form)

A small jar or mug

Warm water + mild wool wash

Steps:

1. Put a pea-sized amount of lanolin in a cup of hot water.

2. Add a few drops of wool wash or baby-safe soap and stir until milky.

3. Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water and pour in your lanolin mixture.

4. Submerge your clean wool cover and let it soak for 30–60 minutes.

5. Gently remove, press out excess water, roll in a towel, and lay flat to dry.

💡 Optional tip: If you notice sticky residue, you used too much lanolin ' next time, use half as much.

🌿 Quick Wool Care Tips

Rotate between 2–3 wool covers so each has time to air out between uses.

Spot-clean small messes with a damp cloth or wool wash bar.

Always air dry between uses - wool naturally self-cleans when given time to breathe.

Never use bleach, vinegar, or fabric softeners on wool.

💚 The Easy Summary

Wash gently. Lanolize occasionally. Air out always. Wool is simpler than it sounds - and once you fall in love with it, you’ll never want to go back.
